Join Michael Sylvester for a reception of his art show Celebrity Portraits.
Michael Sylvester has been drawing since he was 8 years old. He was strongly influenced by Norman Rockwell and his style of art, especially his attention to detail and precision. As Michael got older, he turned his focus to drawing portraits. He loves capturing the likeness of each person he draws. When drawing celebrities, he feels a connection to them as his creations take shape.
He initially started out drawing with pastels and charcoal. In his twenties, he primarily did pencil and paper drawings. In the mid-2000s, he discovered a program on the iPad Pro called Procreate—he was immediately hooked. He loves technology and art, and this type of medium merges two of his passions.
All of the portraits that are displayed in this art show have been done on an iPad using the Apple Pencil. It is his hope that he captured the essence of each celebrity he drew.
Recently, he attended the Monet Immersive Exhibit in Boston and became interested in the impressionistic style of Monet. Included in this exhibit is his first attempt at an impressionistic scene called “Love on the Lake,” again done on the iPad using the Apple Pencil.
