It was America’s birth certificate. And this year, we celebrate its birth, 250 years ago.

Its influence has been explosive, galvanizing peoples throughout the world to assert their independence, inspiring civil rights movements, and sparking a recognition of individual rights. Over half of the states represented at the United Nations have a foundational document they call a declaration of independence. It has been called “the noblest, happiest page in mankind’s history.” And its words, “When in the Course of Human Events...” are both eloquent and moving.
